Welcome to the home of the New York Kite Enthusiasts (NYKE). Our vision for this site is for it to be a destination for both experienced kite fliers and beginners.
First, we wanted to be able to tell visitors to our events that they can visit www.nyke.org for more information on just about any kiting subject they may ask about. We have attempted to provide at least the basics on most kite related subjects. Starting with how to fly a kite, and types of kites, we also cover topics like fighter kites and kite building hints.
Second, we needed to provide a place for our members and the kite community in general to find information. The extensive kite events listing is part of that, as well as an expanding members-only area. NYKE members will find a reasonably current contact list for members, as well as PDF versions of our newsletter, “The Flight Times,” from many years back. It pays to be a member of NYKE!
In the public NYKE section you will find information about NYKE and our members. One of our new features is the ability to pay membership fees via Paypal. We’ve also provided RSS feeds of most pages, although it will probably be most used on the kite events page. At the top right are links to post our site to most social media locations such as Facebook and MySpace, email a page, or just add us to your bookmarks. Also, the small kite event calendar on the left has an iCal link below it. This allows anyone to export every event to other iCal compatible calendar systems like Google calendars. Spread the word.
As always, NYKE welcomes participation from everyone, not just our members. Feel free to contact us with suggestions or even (please?) content. There’s still lots of kite related stuff to add. If you can help, let us know!
