Steeped in tradition, you will find activities and competitions that have been going on as long as there has been a winter carnival in Lake George. The annual polar bear swim, made famous by the Coney Island Polar Bear Club (organized in 1903) which started coming up to Lake George in the 70's to show how nuts they were, has grown into an annual event. More than 740 crazy people had ago at the 35 degree water on New Years Day 2006. Outhouse races, yes, you read it right, outhouse races; have been a tradition that goes back more than 20 years and continues in 2006 on the first weekend of the carnival, February 4th and 5th. The sports car races and the 4x4 trucks will be back providing for some great spectating for race fans!

Amid these age old winter carnival staples, are some great new additions like our 2nd annual kite flying demonstration with kite making for the kids on February 4, and the 1st Annual NNYVSR Vintage Snowmobile Oval Races on the 18th and 19th. In addition, ATV events like the Moonlight Rides, ATV Ice Drags, the 3rd annual TrailPass Poker Run that included hundreds of riders in 2005, and the ATV Ice Cross (a one-of-a-kind event) with more than 150 racers in 2005 have come on the scene over the past few years.

Our schedule is full of fantastic events for adults and kids alike. Children's activities are located at the Shepard's Park amphitheater, out on the ice and in the Art's Building (the old courthouse at the top of the park). Look for the signs to direct you and your kids to great arts and crafts, games, and the hockey shootout. They might even run into Georgie, the Lake George Winter Carnival Snowman!
